FINDING PART-TIME OR STUDENT WORKERS It's not uncommon to find that you have more work than you have time, but not enough resources to hire another full-time employee. The student population is a good place to find a pool of talent available at very reasonable rates. The official channel for finding student workers is through the Office of Student Employment. They manage the Job Placement and Development Program (JPDP), a federally funded database where job opportunities and requirements can be posted. Any part-time or full-time student is eligible for employment through the JPDP database. Another way to find student workers is through the Federal Work Study Program. The program is comprised of students who have applied for and are qualified to receive Federal Work Study (FWSP) funding based on specific criteria. These students can earn a given amount of money per school year for working within the University. Departments should contact the Federal Work Study office and submit a request to have a student assigned to them. For general information, please see FWSP Information page. Employment eligibility is not limited to students or persons affiliated with the University. Departments
may also hire, on an hourly basis, any individual possessing the skills required to fill a position. The
department or individual doing the hiring sets the rates for these employees. Hourly or casual temporary employees are
paid through the departmental budgets and are broken up into two classifications:
Prior to beginning work, all new hourly employees must provide their original Social Security card or a receipt from the Social Security Administration that an application for a card has been filed. |
