OIT Technology Meeting - December 2006
Announcements
Joe Sanders, OIT, and Dave Souren, NBCS
The Computer Repair operation will remain open instead of closing at the end of the semester when the Computer Store closes.
There was a lot of feedback from the community supporting the repair operation. There is an increase in the rates as well
as some other changes made to the operation to make it feasible to keep it open. They will continue to offer the same
services, including warranty repair work for Apple computers, IBM computers, Dell computers and printers, and HP/Compaq
computers and printers. Additionally, they will continue to sell the Liebert power products, as well as typical
upgrade/replacement parts, hard drives, memory, video cards, etc. Their rates and other offerings are advertised on their
website.
Beth Binde, IPS
IPS is considering several options for a training class in the spring. They're looking for feedback from the community,
so they have posted an online survey.
All are encouraged to fill out the survey.
Ed Humphrey, CSS
During the recent upgrades to the CSS NetApp equipment, they ran into some problems that forced them to back out from part

Official announcements to the technical lists and general public will be made as the date nears.

SAS' Report View System
Tom Vosseler, SAS
Tom Vosseler of the School of Arts and Sciences gave a demonstration of the Report View system he created for SAS. The
system takes data received electronically from ACS and parses it with Perl scripts. It was designed to, and succeeded in
eliminating the huge amount of paper that was used to manage all their accounts. Authorized users can now log into the
web form and just view the appropriate information. The telephone reporting feature takes the monthly phone bill and
parses and sorts it so individuals can see the bill for their line(s), and can create call groups to charge different
phone calls to different accounts or grants.
Any department who wishes to use it can be added to the system, even if they're not part of SAS. It does require that Tom
has access to your department's financial data. Contact Tom at
vosseler@admin.rutgers.edu
for more information.
