OIT Technology Meeting - February 2006

Announcements

Ed Humphrey, NBCS
SMTP Auth announcements were sent to rci/eden accounts notifying users of the March timeframe for enforcement of the authentication requirement. All email clients that are supported by the Help Desk have been tested and they work. Questions on SMTP Auth should go to the Help Desk. There is a "white list" available for network devices and appliances. A web tool for the white list is pending.

The Listserv mailing list program is going to be replaced by Mailman. The migration is coming in April. List owners will receive an email to confirm the continued need for their list and with instructions on how to migrate the list.

the ID Theft Prevention Act will require RATS clients run on secure servers. For the most part, they're already doing this, but in the near future it will be enforced.

Tom Grzelak, OIRT
Sakai Training for IT professionals will be offered in the near future. If you're interested, please email Gail Stein at gstein@rutgers.edu. The next IT Technology Meeting will include a presentation by Bill Crosbie, the senior Sakai programmer.

On April 4, the Office of the Vice-President for Research, the Office of Information Technology and Internet2 are co-sponsoring a day long event on "The Impact of National Directions in Cyberinfrastructure". Information and registration can be found at the OIRT web page.

OIRT has "brown bag lunches" scheduled for February 17 and March 9. Each lunch focuses on a different vendor's video conference solutions. Information and registration can be found at the OIRT web page.

Mary Ann Chianelli, MSSG
The recent change in the format to the new OIT Technology Meetings meant the elemination of vendor presentations at these meetings. As a substitution, OIT is organizing an IT Vendor Fair. It will take place on Wednesday, March 8 in the Busch Campus Center MPR. In addition to the vendor tables in the MPR, the the vendors will hold technical break-out sessions throughout the day in additional rooms reserved for the event. Over 25 vendors are expected. NJEdge member institutions will also be invited to attend. A schedule of the break-out sessions will be made available as the event date nears. Door prizes will be given away.
