Introduction to Computer Forensics Class The Division of Information Protection and Security (IPS) would like to invite Unit Computing Specialists, Unit Computing Managers and Managers responsible for restricted data to a free hands-on class entitled "Introduction to Computer Forensics". The class be held on Thursday, November 29, 9:30-11:30 AM in the new IPS Computer lab in ASB Annex 1, room 102 instructed by Bruce Rights. Class size is limited and will address the following issues: What is a computer forensic investigation; why the skill is necessary; definitions; principles; outsourcing as an alternative; department needs; and the availability of resources. This 2-day hands-on course will cover the common vulnerabilities leveraged by attackers, the principles of securing web applications, and general defense techniques to protect against future attacks. This course is meant to help understand the mechanics of the components necessary for effective web application security which will then enable you to properly defend the university's and your department's assets. The price for this workshop is $500 and instructed by Johannes Ullrich, Chief Research Officer for the SANS Institute. The conference is open to all campuses with video conference ability.
